Free online inxs 3a baby live at wembley stadium cakes. A remastered concert film and a new documentary reposition the Australian band for the digital age. Credit. Eagle Rock Films In the opening scenes of the concert film “Live Baby Live, ” INXS bangs out “Guns in the Sky, ” an anti-nukes anthem from its six-times-platinum 1987 album “Kick. ” As beats reverberate across Londons old Wembley Stadium, the Australian rock bands appeal leaps to life: funky guitar rhythms, saxophones, tight trousers and the soulful flow of the singer Michael Hutchences voice. The movie, which captured the bands July 1991 show before a crowd of nearly 74, 000, has been fully restored from its original 35 mm print, and is rolling out in theaters across the globe in 4K Ultra HD; Monday it comes to America for a one-day-only event. It will be followed on Jan. 7 by “Mystify, ” a biographical documentary about Hutchence directed by Richard Lowenstein. Taken together, this is a rare moment of visibility for a band that achieved global superstardom but has been notably absent in the digital age. “It may seem preposterous, but I hope young musicians will see the film and say, ‘Lets be different. Lets be like this, ” Tim Farriss, one of the bands founders and its lead guitarist, said of “Live Baby Live” in a phone interview from Australia. INXS — which included Tim Farrisss siblings Andrew (keyboards) and Jon (drums) along with Kirk Pengilly (guitar, saxophone) Garry Gary Beers (bass) and Hutchence — started out as the Farriss Brothers in 1977. After years of writing and performing, INXS broke out in the United States in 1983 with an MTV video for “ The One Thing ” that helped push the song into the Top 40. The band followed up with a freight train of high-energy hits: “What You Need, ” “Need You Tonight, ” “New Sensation, ” “Suicide Blonde” and “Beautiful Girl. ” But the groups popularity started to wane around the time of its 1993 album “Full Moon, Dirty Hearts, ” and in 1997 Hutchence hanged himself in a Sydney hotel room. He was 37. The band went on hiatus, and returned with a series of guest singers, including Terence Trent DArby in a gutsy 1999 stadium performance. In 2005, it searched for a new vocalist on a CBS reality show, “Rock Star: INXS, ” carrying on with the winner, J. D. Fortune, on and off until 2011 (though the experiment wasnt as successful as Queens tours with Adam Lambert, or Journeys live work with the singer Arnel Pineda. In 2012, INXS announced it was stopping touring entirely. “Live Baby Live” captures INXS at its peak; “Mystify” uses intimate interviews with Hutchences inner circle (U2s Bono, Kylie Minogue and the model Helena Christensen) to paint a soft-focus picture of the singer. The documentary reveals the brain damage he suffered after an altercation with a taxi driver in 1992, and quells, but never dispels, speculations about why he hanged himself. Both films prompt questions about the bands subsequent struggles to translate worldwide record sales of more than 50 million into lasting visibility. Hutchences influence on other rock frontmen was profound: “Bono and I both lifted from him a lot, ” Michael Stipe of R. E. M. said in a recent interview. “As a performer, my God, he was equal to none. Not unlike seeing Elvis Presley at his greatest. ” At a November concert in Sydney, Bono called Hutchence “a true beauty. ” But the singers death came at a moment of transition for the music industry: right before Napsters rise. The result was a “ lost decade ” of music sales and “ deleted years ” of MP3 files until streaming services, which restored the idea that music wasnt free, overtook downloads. In some ways, the internet swallowed INXS. In the years after Hutchences death, “everything changed rapidly, ” said the producer Giles Martin, who remastered the sound for “Live Baby Live” at Abbey Road Studios. “If you look at someone who is comparable to Michael Hutchence, like Jim Morrison from the Doors, that band didnt suffer the same sudden changes in technology as INXS did, ” which had an impact on its legacy, he said. Still, a younger generation has spoken up about the bands influence, particularly women artists such as London Grammars Hannah Reid, Paloma Faith, Courtney Barnett (who sang the whole “Kick” album) and Bishop Briggs, who said her take on “Never Tear Us Apart” for the “Fifty Shades Freed” soundtrack last year gave her a deep appreciation for Hutchences “soulful essence. ” The singer Ben Harper, who performed on INXSs 2010 album “Original Sin, ” believes theres still time for the band to be discovered. “The music isnt going anywhere, it will be here as long as humans let it, ” he said. “INXS stands out, because not a lot of the bands from the 1980s had those pop sensibilities with a true rock edge. ” Last month, the Matchbox 20 singer Rob Thomas performed with INXSs Andrew Farriss in Australia to mark the anniversary of Hutchences death. “More people should have been saying the name Michael Hutchence as much as they said Prince, Madonna or any of the other great icons from that era, ” Thomas wrote in an email, adding that a resurgence could be right around the corner, “maybe a film or television moment that brings them back into the grand consciousness. They certainly should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. ”.

UNITED KINGDOM - JANUARY 01: WEMBLEY Photo of Michael HUTCHENCE and INXS, Michael Hutchence. Photo by Mick Hutson/Redferns) Redferns Nearly 22 years after the tragic suicide of their singer Michael Hutchence, the Australian rock band INXS are still in the public eye through a variety of projects that pay homage to their music and unforgettable frontman. Since the 2005 broadcast of the reality TV show Rock Star: INXS, the band has released Original Sin, a re-recording of their songs featuring guest singers, and several compilation albums and reissues. In 2014, they were depicted in a popular Australian television mini-series, Never Tear Us Apart that brought back renewed interes t in their music. There are reportedly more things being planned around INXS's legacy, including a theatrical stage show and a museum at the X Building (described as an arts and innovation hub) in the Australian town of Ballina. Most recently, Hutchence's life is the focus of a new documentary, Mystify, directed by Richard Lowenstein. Another part of the ongoing branding of INXS and their music is the re-release of Live Baby Live, a 1991 concert film directed by David Mallett that is being shown in theaters for the very first time (A special sneak-peek screening of the movie, presented by Petrol Records and Eagle Rock Films, was held in New York City this past Thursday. Previously a video release, Live Baby Live has been now remastered in 4K accompanied new restored sound by Giles Martin and Sam Okell and presented in Dolby Atmos mix. Live Baby Live (which takes its name from a lyric on the band's hit song “New Sensation”) was filmed during INXS's sold-out performance at London's Wembley Stadium on July 13, 1991, in support of their then-latest album X. The band was no stranger to playing Wembley, having opened for Queen five years earlier on the latter's Magic Tour. The concert represented INXS – singer Hutchence, keyboardist/guitarist Andrew Farriss, guitarist Tim Farriss, bassist Garry Gary Beers, drummer Jon Farriss, and guitarist/saxophonist Kirk Pengilly – at their height of their popularity, coming off of the massively-successful 1987 album Kick. According to a flyer that was distributed at the recent New York screening, the decision to film the Wembley performance, which drew 72, 000 people, came only a few days earlier by INXS's manager Chris Murphy, who proceeded to raise the funds for the project. Director Mallett, who had worked with such top-tier acts as Queen, David Bowie and AC/DC, signed on with a request to shoot the film in 35mm with 16 cameras and a helicopter. In the end, proceeds from the band's fee from the show and PolyGram Video contributed to the financing of the film. Despite the logistics, it was worth it for posterity reasons, as Live Baby Live showed what an amazing live band INXS were, regardless of the size of the venue (they were still kicking it by 1997 for a show at the much-smaller Irving Plaza in New York City, a few months before Hutchene's death. From the opening notes of “Guns in the Sky” that led off the Wembley concert, INXS electrified the massive audience with their superb and skillful musicianship and ruthlessly catchy dance-funk-rock songs. It was a culmination of how much the band had honed their skills from playing the pubs in Australia since forming in 1977. A huge part of their setlist at the Wembley show drew from the albums Kick (including “Need You Tonight, ” “Devil Inside, ” “Never Tear Us Apart” and “New Sensation”) and X (“Suicide Blonde, ” “The Stairs, ” “Disappear” and “Hear That Song”. A few older songs were part of the set as well, including “What You Need, ” "Original Sin" and “I Send a Message. ” Interestingly, the one number that was not performed at Wembley was “Don't Change, ” a song that was usually a staple at INXS shows. Now with the newly-remastered visuals and sound, this theatrical screening of Live Baby Live truly recreated the spectacle-like atmosphere of Wembley from 28 years ago. There have been plenty of rock and roll concert films from time immemorial. But if there is one only reason to revisit Live Baby Live now, it's to see Michael Hutchence at his masterful best with his bluesy and soulful singing and charismatic stage moves. He showed his dark and mysterious shaman-like qualities on the uptempo rockers, but he also displayed a tender side particularly on the ballads “By My Side” and “Never Tear Us Apart. ” He seemed to have appreciated and understood the magnitude of playing Wembley when joked to the audience that this was “the biggest pub we've ever played. ” Watching him on screen was also gut-wrenching with the knowledge that he would die of an apparent suicide six years later. The last shot in the movie featured Hutchence holding up two fingers in a peace sign before leaving the stage—it was an incredibly poignant moment forever frozen on screen. There hasn't been any official confirmation on whether this newly-remastered version of Live Baby Live will see a commercial release. If and when that happens, it will be another further extension of the INXS brand. Hutchence has been gone now for over two decades, and the surviving members of INXS haven't released new original material or toured in quite a while. But with this film and other upcoming endeavors, it doesn't appear to be the last we'll hear from INXS.

September 24, 2019 6:00AM PT INXS frontman Michael Hutchence s 1997 death meant many still-coming-of-age fans were unable to see the Australian bands magnetism live in its original form. “Live Baby Live, ” an album of the bands 1991 sold out Wembley Stadium concert, assuaged some, as did its David Mallet-directed video accompaniment. Then the film disappeared, and longtime manager Chris M. Murphy spent 10 years looking for the original 35mm film cans which were eventually located in Australia. Now CinEvents is bringing a new widescreen 4K Ultra HD restoration of the film to theaters along with a new Dolby Atmos audio mix by executive music producer Giles Martin and Sam Okell, who worked out of Abbey Road Studios. “Live Baby Live, ” which includes a previously unseen “lost” track, will screen in theaters beginning on Nov. 14, starting in Australia and New Zealand then making its way to North and South America on Dec. 9 along with other international territories. Head to for a list of participating theaters and watch the trailer below: The release of “Live Baby Live” follows the documentary “Mystify: Michael Hutchence. ” Said Murphy in announcing the project: “Watching it back Michael is better than even I thought he was — how he managed the stage. His voice became more powerful as the gig went along. It was extraordinary to watch — the crowd and band were as one”. In 1991, INXS was still touring behind the album “X, ” which had seen double-platinum sales in the U. S., and playing some of the biggest venues of the bands career including a headlining slot at Rock in Rio. In July, they played Wembley to a sold-out crowd of nearly 74, 000. Filming the concert required Mallet, who had directed the likes of Pink Floyd and David Bowie, to use 17 cameras and a helicopter. Financing for ‘Live Baby Live was aided by Geoff Kempin, who would go on to co-found Eagle Rock Entertainment but was head of PolyGram Video at the time. Said INXS co-founder Tim Farriss: “We were just six blokes from Australia that treated Wembley Stadium like just another pub gig, we went it in with a PA and a few lights and played our asses off. No ego ramps, no back-up singers, no props, no grand pianos etc, just the six of us… the audience went nuts! Thats all we needed! ” It is widely considered one of Hutchences finest performances, of which Martin said: “This new mix of ‘Live Baby Live captures one of the biggest global sensations at the height of their powers. INXS are one of the greatest bands to have graced the Wembley Stadium stage. The sheer scale of seeing an audience moving as one to the music is mesmerizing. Working on the film took me back to a time where an audience completely connects with a band without holding up any phones, and the energy in the stadium is mind blowing”. An announcement of a new soundtrack to “Live Baby Live Wembley 1991” is forthcoming. For female filmmakers in the industry, this years round of Oscar nominations – in which acclaimed female-helmed films such as “Hustlers” and “The Farewell” were shut out in place of male-directed Best Picture nominees predominantly centred on stories of white men – told a frustratingly familiar story. But in the Academys non-fiction branch, a different. Some movie stars level a kind of divinity that transcends personal preference — woe betide the dissenter who openly finds Audrey Hepburn cloying, or Cary Grant less than charming. That Bruce Lee had long ascended to that level of iron-clad cool was underlined by the biggest popular quibble with “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, ”. For many the 1990s were the Age of Irony, with hipster cultural touchstones like Spy magazine and the TV show “Strangers With Candy” helping make snark the preferred flavor of the day. “The Simpsons” was also a big player in that area, yet arguably no cartoon series before had been quite so postmodern as “The. We put that DVD on the big screen in the front lounge of the tour bus. It's like going to a 101 class to be a frontman rock star. Wembley Stadium chock full, singing every word. Awesome. Six years to the day after Live Aid, Londons famous Wembley Stadium played host to a second concert would go down in history. On 13 July 1991, Aussie superstars INXS delivered the show of their lives at Wembley, with their career-defining gig captured in all its widescreen glory by a spin-off concert film and live album – both of which were titled Live Baby Live. At Wembley, INXS surfed the crest of an almighty wave that first started to swell when they released their breakthrough album, Kick, in 1987, and continued to build with 1990s X: another highly polished pop album that yielded multi-platinum sales and thrust the band into rocks premier league. Listen to Live Baby Live: Wembley Stadium on Apple Music  and Spotify. “The whole band was on fire that night” INXS Wembley Stadium date was just one of many stops on their high-profile Summer XS tour of 1991 and – as the original 11 November 1991 edition of Live Baby Live proved – they were on ferocious form. That first editions 16 tracks were culled from shows in cities ranging from Sydney to Dublin and Rio De Janeiro, and they demonstrated there were few bands on the planet capable of touching INXS at that particular moment in time. The Antipodean stars were on a roll when they arrived in Europe in the summer of 1991. Theyd completed the tours successful “homecoming” leg in Australia during April and May, after which their Summer XS itinerary found them headlining European festival shows from 28 June through to 16 July. To a man, the band agreed the high point of the jaunt was the 13 July show at Wembley Stadium. “A night to remember for all time” “The whole band was on fire that night”, bassist Garry Gary Beers recalled in 2019. “Michael was so good, he sang his heart out and gave every person in the crowd a night to remember for all time. He truly had that amazing ability to make the biggest shows as intimate as the pubs we grew up in musically. ” INXS needed to be on top of their game that night, not least because they were topping a bill of real pedigree. Their headlining slot was preceded by sets from fast-rising indie-dance outfit Jesus Jones, Irish favourites The Hothouse Flowers, San Franciscan rockers Jellyfish, widely-acclaimed British soul-rock outfit Roachford and iconic Blondie star Deborah Harry. However, as director David Mallets recently-restored Live Baby Live  film and its newly-released, 21-track audio counterpart so vividly reveal, INXS were never going to falter. Michael Hutchence and company may have stepped out in front of an awe-inspiring 74, 000 people, but as soon as drummer Jon Farriss hammered out the machine-like rhythm of ‘Guns In The Sky and his colleagues locked in behind him, they never once looked back. “One of the biggest global sensations at the height of their powers” The nights setlist drew heavily on both Kick and X, with vast swathes of the crowd moving as one to ‘New Sensation and hollering back the chorus of the sinewy, blues-based ‘Mystify. Kicking off six consecutive tracks from X, a tense, measured performance of ‘The Stairs ramped up the tension, then gave way to the swaggering, wah-wah-driven ‘Know The Difference, before a soaring ‘Disappear provoked an enormous roar from the crowd. Shrewdly, INXS kept a battery of hits in reserve for the home stretch, which included celebratory versions of ‘Bitter Tears, ‘Suicide Blonde and the biggest, phattest version of their breakthrough hit, ‘What You Need. The latter song culminated in a lengthy call-and-response workout between Hutchence and the crowd; for all his poise and consummate cool, the much-missed frontman was visibly moved by the love his band received that night. “F_ ing hell, it looks like all Englands out there! ” he said, his voice cracking with emotion as ‘Suicide Blonde wound down. If that wasnt enough, encores including ‘Need You Tonight, a heartstring-tugging ‘Never Tear Us Apart and a seven-minute ‘Devil Inside almost brought the venues famous Twin Towers down. By the time the Aussie legends finally relinquished the stage, no one present would have quibbled with executive music producer Giles Martins assertion that theyd just witnessed “one of the biggest global sensations at the height of their powers”. Best INXS Songs: 20 Essential Tracks That You Need Tonight Why Michael Hutchence Was Musics Last True Sex God Michael Hutchence Quotes: The INXS Frontman In His Own Words As subsequent albums such as Welcome To Wherever You Are and Full Moon, Dirty Hearts proved, INXS still had plenty of great music to come. Yet the band also felt that Live Baby Live documented them scaling a once-in-lifetime peak: “We were just six blokes from Australia that treated Wembley Stadium like just another pub gig, ” Tim Farriss said in 2019. “We went in with a PA and a few lights and played our asses off. No ego ramps, no back-up singers, no props, no grand pianos, just the six of us – and the audience went nuts! Thats all we needed! ” Live Baby Live: Wembley Stadium can be bought here.
